As I was having my quiet time this morning, I was thinking about daylight savings time. We have learned to manipulate our clocks to make ourselves think we are getting more time. That made me think about the time The Lord really did make a day longer. So, I went back and read Joshua 10:1-14.
Joshua prayed and asked God to cause the sun and moon to stop until the Israelites secured victory against the Amorites, and He did. Our God created this universe and has authority over everything in it. That includes the sun and moon. He created them. He created you. He knows how many stars are in the sky, and He knows how many hairs are on your head.
He knows and loves you from the inside out with an everlasting love that we really can’t even understand. He even sent His perfect sinless Son to take our sin and punishment upon Himself and to be the finished and final sacrifice for us. Best yet, He defeated sin and death and rose again so that all who trust in Him can be saved and live with Him forever. I hope you have trusted Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
So, when you pray today, pray believing. Pray knowing that God literally stopped the sun one day for His children when Joshua asked. Pray understanding that absolutely nothing is impossible for our God. You don’t have one single problem that He can’t take and use for His glory. Trust Him today.
“On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel,
Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel:
‘Sun, stand still over Gibeon,
and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.’
So the sun stood still,
and the moon stopped,
till the nation avenged itself on[a] its enemies,
as it is written in the Book of Jashar.
The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel!”
