One of the Good Ones

Brandon’s birthday comes around every year, but I celebrate him every day. I thought it was fitting that Gabby Barrett sang her hit song “One of the Good Ones” at the concert we went to last night. Since I heard it the very first time, I always think of Brandon any time I hear it. Those lyrics say so much about him — though not enough.

He is one of the good ones… the best to those of us who know and love him.  Strong… steady…. Loving…. True to his word, his wife, his family, his friends, and most importantly to God.

His daily life is one of service. Not a day goes by that he’s not helping people. You won’t find him bragging about it… in fact, you may not even know what all he does… but I do. The people whom he impacts do. His family, friends, coworkers, neighbors and even the inmates do. Funny thing is, I don’t know that he really knows what all he does for others. That is the true sign of a servant’s heart. He just looks around and sees a need and meets it.

He is the greatest gift the Lord has given me and our family. He’s a man of few words and not a gushy mushy guy. He doesn’t sugarcoat things — compromise his integrity — or shirk his duty. “Love” is a verb. It’s something he puts into action every single day. He is genuine, authentic, and the real deal. I couldn’t have asked for or even imagined a better role model for our boys and now our grandsons…. And the love I have for him is one I can’t even put into words.

One other thing… not only does he love all of us, but he’s somewhat of an Ole Miss Rebel fan. So… I want to wish him the happiest birthday ever! Happy birthday, Brandon! I love you!! And Go Rebs!!
